Moving from Wordpress BACK to Blogger

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Are you asking yourself, "WHAT?! WHY?! Is she CRAY-ZAY?!" You did read the title of this post correctly. I AM making the huge switch back to Blogger from Wordpress. As functional and awesome as a self-hosted Wordpress site is, I just can't quite describe how, at the same time, it was lacking something almost intangible...it felt like it was lacking, oh...community. That's right. I said it. COMMUNITY. I felt a little lonely in the Wordpress universe. Y

Maybe it has something to do with Google Friend Connect {which is supposedly going to dissolve one of these days anyway}, or perhaps it has to do with the fact that Blogger sites feel more like blogs rather than websites, I dunno. Either way, it's been hovering in my brain for a long time, and it just felt like perhaps it was time to follow my heart and come back home to Blogger.

So here I am. Despite the fact that I'm going to have to manually go back through my blog and upload ALL of my photos again {insert your gasp here!}, I'm going to give this experiment a shot. We'll see how it all goes.

I'm feeling content and simplified. I think that we can ALL agree to the merits of simplicity for the sake of sanity.

I'm even going to break the blogging rules again and skip adding a photo this time! YIPES! You'll live, right? Yeah. Me too. See you around these parts. Bear with me while I get all "moved in."

    1. I'll let you know how it goes, Ashley! Everyone says "Wordpress, Wordpress, Wordpress..." except all of my favorite bloggers who are {almost} all using Blogger. *SMH*

    1. I know, right?! It's going to be a ridiculous job, but I'm still not regretting it! ;) Most of the transition probably won't happen until the kiddos are back in school-- and I'm completely ok with that. ;)

  3. I want to move back as well. I had my own domain through Godaddy when I was at Blogger for two years and I still have it. So how do I move with the same name?

    1. Hi there, Brenda! What an ADORABLE blog you have there at Cozy Little House! The charm of a 1950 cottage sucked us right in too-- now I can't decide if it was brilliant or insane!

As for the move, as long as you own the domain, you can always just verify that domain name with Blogger again and then make the change in your CPanel with your current server (clear as mud? yeah...)

I will just forewarn you. There is really no great way to transfer any of your images other than downloading your images folder from your server and reattaching them to your new Blogger hosted site. I'm sure that it is horrible for your SEO. Moreover, if you have oodles of people heading to your site from images pinned on Pinterest, you'll lose all of that traffic too. All that known, it *still* felt like the right move for me. Something about the Blogger platform makes me feel more like I'm just blogging. Wordpress always made me feel like I was trying to maintain a full website. Again, it's probably all intangible, but for the moment, Blogger just feels right. ;)
